MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island will reopen to house coronavirus patients


The former MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island will be used for isolation and quarantining of people who’ve been exposed to or tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the Chicago Department of Housing.

It is part of a broader plan announced by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to use facilities such as Chicago hotel rooms as isolation areas as a way of freeing up needed hospital beds. The city said that 200 beds at MetroSouth would be used, and that the former hospital could be ready to accept people by the end of this week…Please click here to read Mike Nolan’s story in the Tribune/Daily Southtown.
