The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus is partnering with Business and Professional People for the Public Interest (BPI) and the Woodstock Institute to conduct a series of trainings across the region on best practices related to vacant property ordinances. The training will provide municipal staff and elected officials with information about what makes an effective vacant property registrations program, with a particular focus on implementation strategies. The centerpiece of the training will be a moderated panel discussion with representatives of different communities, followed by an opportunity for Q&A. In addition, they will discuss the implications of the recent court decision regarding the City of Chicago’s vacant property ordinance and the Federal Housing Finance Authority (FHFA).
The first training will take place on Thursday, October 10th from 9:00am-11:00am at the office of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (1904 W. 174th Street, East Hazel Crest). Please note the SSMMA workshop will also feature a brief presentation from IHDA to discuss The Abandoned Properties Program (APP), which will provide grants to municipalities/counties for the maintenance of abandoned properties within their areas. IHDA will be releasing an application for the Program shortly and will provide more information at this meeting. PLEASE RSVP to amilld@mayorscaucus.org or (312) 201-4507 if you or your staff plan to attend the workshop at SSMMA
