Public Safety Committee meets with St. James official on impact of Chicago Heights’ closing

SSMMA’s Public Safety Committee met with Franciscan St. James Health Vice President of External Affairs Mike Bruni on Feb. 27 to discuss available resources and options as inpatient services will end in Chicago Heights this fall. However, work to expand the Olympia Fields location is scheduled to be completed this year in October, as well as a new urgent care facility in Chicago Heights. Municipal, fire and police officials expressed concern about higher travel times for ambulances to get to other emergency rooms, emergency department “bypass,”  and the need for a level 1 trauma center in the South Suburbs.
