SSMMA’s GIS team has created a fantastic new multimedia story map for resources on Complete Streets planning.
The Complete Streets and Trails Plan, adopted last summer by SSMMA’s Board and Executive Committee, reflects the commitment and the high priority SSMMA and the South Council of Mayors place on modernizing and improving all streets to safely and comfortably accommodate all current and future users, including bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders of all ages and abilities.
One way to communicate the information outlined in this plan was to leverage Esri’s ArcGIS technology to develop an app that combines narrative text with interactive maps, images, and multimedia content in a compelling, informative, and engaging experience. Using a ready-to-use template requiring no additional programming, the GIS team was able to develop a content-rich story map.
The Making Complete Streets a Reality in the South Suburbs story map provides an overview of the plan, including the benefits of Complete Streets, context zones, roadway topologies, and more, along with policy examples, success stories, and links to various ordinances, resolutions, and other helpful information.
